CLASSES
Adults
Our Foundations classes are specifically designed to highlight the most essential and common scenarios encountered in the game of grappling.
Because we use the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA), even our Foundations classes consist entirely of live training. The tasks within these sessions are scaled down to be easily digestible for beginners while remaining essential for developing proficiency as grapplers.
All aspects of the game are covered in a general yet thoughtfully structured manner, allowing students to improve their skills quickly in a challenging environment—without compromising safety.
Each class includes one hour of structured training, followed by an additional hour for live rounds and optional work.
Foundations
All-levels
Our All-Levels classes are open to all grapplers, regardless of experience or skill level.
What sets this class apart is the focus on more nuanced and specialized aspects of grappling that become increasingly important as students progress.
The training tasks in this class are more open-ended, giving students the freedom to explore and begin developing their own style and problem-solving approach. This openness also raises the intensity, as the games become more dynamic with increased variability and difficulty.
Each All-Levels class runs for 1 hour and 15 minutes and includes a Q&A segment designed to provide individualized support and help our coaching staff tailor future training sessions.
Kids Program
We're passionate about teaching kids Jiu-Jitsu in a fun, active, and engaging way.
At 5th Shield, we don’t believe in making kids bow, memorize techniques in a monotonous fashion, or stand around bored while someone lectures. Instead, our classes are designed around constant movement and learning through play.
We use the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA) in our kids program, just like we do with adults. This means our young students build real Jiu Jitsu skills naturally—as a result of playing with their friends and engaging in carefully designed games.
Our kids program is split into two age groups:
Ages 5–7: 30-minute classes focused on simple, fun games that introduce the basic feel of grappling.
Ages 8–12: 45-minute classes that still prioritize fun and play but begin to introduce more structured concepts in submission grappling.
No matter the age, our goal is to make every class something kids look forward to—where they’re developing coordination, confidence, and grappling skills without even realizing how much they’re learning
